So Popera and the Avenue Q Team were thrilled to take home two of the top awards at the 2013/14 Canberra Area Theatre Awards in February, including Best Director of a Musical (Amy Copeland) and Best Production of a Musical. Congratulations to the whole Avenue Q Family!
Back by popular demand! SoPopera! are thrilled to announce the return season of the much-loved production of Avenue Q this October!
Avenue Q tells the story of a group of 20-somethings all sharing the same dilapidated back street apartment strip in New York City. Though the characters and plot of this musical bears a resemblance to the much loved Sesame Street – don’t be fooled, this is not a bed time story to tell the kids! Avenue Q addresses and pokes fun at the issues and anxieties associated with entering adulthood, such as earning a living, finding love and growing up. With 9 of the 12 characters played by puppets, Avenue Q is definitely a show for the naughty at heart with a great sense of humor. In 2003, the Broadway production of Avenue Q won three Tony awards, including Best Musical against hit musical sensation Wicked and has since gone on to international success.
